Bees in danger/Varroa mite

Varroa mite
Honeybees numbers are dwindling at an alarming rate in the U.S. due to the arrival around 1987 of the varroa mite, a parasite from China . The mite and accompanying diseases appear to have been a major factor in honeybee deaths.
At present, a phenomenon known as “colony collapse disorder” has caused further problems. Beekeepers open their hives in the Spring to find their bees missing without a trace.
